What's the Prescription?

On this day off, the Philadelphia Phillies should take the day and relax. Get healthy. Take this time to reflect on the purpose of the next three weeks of the regular season. The Phillies have many reasons to enjoy the day and get healthy. Let's take a look at who needs to heal and their importance to the Postseason.

First we have Carlos Ruiz. "Chooch" has a sprained left wrist that he jammed taking one for the team in Atlanta bringing in a throw from Raul Ibanez to get a runner at the plate. Carlos is a key to the success of the Phillies' rotation. He has improve dramatically here during the summer months with his offense and his defense is the best that the Phillies have seen since Bob Boone of the 1980 Championship team.

Shane Victorino is getting over a stomach virus that irritated more than his midsection. Shane came back to the starting lineup only to be ejected in the first inning for arguing being thrown out at second base. Shane, suck it up and get back out in the field. You are too classy a player to let it get to you. Get your point across without getting hot headed. You need to have a clear head and be rested.

Then there is Brett Myers. We thought we had another closer to save Brad Lidge from the collapse at the end of the 'pen, but now Brett is day-to-day with his shoulder. Take the rest and get back Brett. We need to stabilize the bullpen in the next few weeks.

Chan Ho Park. How do you say bad luck in Chinese? However it is said, that's what seems to have happen to Park. He almost got hit by a bat in Saturday's game and may now have to have season ending surgery on his hamstring. He has been one of the most consistent things in the bullpen since leaving the starting rotation back in May.

And then there is Pedro. He pitched his heart out last week against his former Mets, throwing 130 shutout innings in 8 innings. Then, Saturday night he tweaked his neck taking a swing earlier in the game. Status on Martinez is day-to-day, but all indications are that Pedro will make his next start against the Marlins.

Lastly, JA Happ. Happ made his return to the rotation after skipping his last two starts with an oblique. During the 3rd inning of Friday's game against the Braves, Happ went to cover first base on a hit to the right side of the infield and tweaked the oblique again. As Pedro's status is positive, Happ stated yesterday he intends to make his next start against the Marlins

Wednesday. JC Romero and Scott Eyre are making rehab assignments to get them back soon as well.

Whatever the diagnosis is and whatever the prescription is, the Phillies need to take the doctor's orders and listen intently. Rest and health is what this doctor is ordering here. What do you think?
