Moyer Is A Refreshed Man

Jamie Moyer had time to think. Ironically, I feel he was thinking too much the first time. It seems to me it all started with the possible talks of signing Pedro Martinez. From mid July to early August, Jamie's three start averaged 5.1 ip and 4.7 earned runs averaging out to an ERA hovering around 7. That is tough to swallow when you are a major league team fighting as they were they to stay in first place. What really seemed to save his is most of the time he had great run support and lead the team in wins, and currently does with 12.

With all that being said, it is still hard to get upset with "Grandpa Moyer." He is such a classy guy who has been a mentor for the young Cole Hamels, JA Happ, and more. He takes time before every game he is not pitching and signs autographs down the entire 1st baseline until he gets to the end. He talked to me for several minutes (getting those down the line very irriatated at me) about the Moyer Foundation (http://www.moyerfoundation.org/) and Camp Erin that he oversees for children who have lost a parent.

I think he has had the time to slow down his thinking and realize the pressure is off of him now. Pedro is being the Pedro of old, Jamie is coming in and filling in the voids needed in the rotation and even probably some things that pitching coach Rich Dubee can't explain to his fellow pitchers.

We love ya Jamie. Keep being the classy World Champion that we have come to love!

  1. I couldn't agree more. Old man Moyer is everything that is right about sports, about baseball, and about life in general. Do you know what is better than watching your favorite sports teams win? Watching your favorite sports teams win with players you love on and off the field. Sometimes it is hard for me to want my favorite teams to win when they are full of a bunch of knuckleheads. Interesting dilemma is developing though. Playoff roster: All 5 starters plus Moyer? Not much room for the real bullpen guys then. We'll see what ol' Charlie comes up with.
