Chase Could Have Made A Difference . . . But Didn't

Just my thought. With a game on the line, shouldn't a Major League baseball player be aware of all the possibilities? Runners on first and third, only one out. Growing up playing baseball, in that situation, I would have taken off for second the second I saw the ball in the dirt or pass the catcher. Last night in the same situation, Chase took off for second when the ball slid through Nationals catcher Rivera's legs only to turn around and head back to first when the catch blocked its return. Chase, make something happen. You had the momentum and the tides were turning. The catcher bobbled the ball and never came up clean with the ball to get you. Maybe you could have drawn an errant throw. Maybe even caught in a rundown for Shane to score the tying run. Or maybe get to second to avoid a game ending double play. With Ryan Howard up and being a hitter that frequently hits ground ball to the shifted infielders, take the chance.

Yes, if you got caught we would definately have been talking about it too. But there was definately more of a chance of something happening if you tried to go rather than no chance with you staying.

  1. I think you should submit this post to the Phillies as your resume for the first base coaching job.
